Golden Hills in Redondo Beach

The neighborhood

What buyers should know

Golden Hills sits on the western side of North Redondo, directly next to Hermosa Beach and just south of Manhattan Beach. That location is a big part of its appeal. Buyers who like Hermosa or Manhattan Beach often include Golden Hills in the same search because the beach and both neighboring cities are still close, while the homes are on the Redondo side of the border.

The housing here is distinctive. Golden Hills is known for its “tall and skinny” single-family homes, many built on narrow lots of about 25 by 100 feet. Instead of spreading out, the houses go up, and many use a reverse floor plan with the kitchen and main living area upstairs. There are also older detached homes and a smaller number of townhome and condominium options, particularly closer to Aviation Boulevard.

For buyers who want a detached home and do not need a large yard, Golden Hills can offer a lot of house in a location that is still closely connected to the other Beach Cities. The neighborhood is inland, but it does not feel far removed from Hermosa or Manhattan Beach, which is one reason it tends to stand apart from other parts of North Redondo.

The tradeoff is that the narrow lots and vertical floor plans are not for everyone. Yard space can be limited, stairs are part of daily life in many homes, and parking can depend heavily on the particular street and garage. If those things matter less than being close to Hermosa and Manhattan Beach while staying in Redondo, Golden Hills can be a very good fit.

Buyer questions

What buyers ask about this neighborhood

What is the difference between Golden Hills and the Villas in North Redondo?

Golden Hills is closer to Hermosa Beach and is known for narrow lots and vertically designed detached homes; the Villas are farther inland and offer a much broader mix of detached homes, townhomes and two- and three-home developments.

For many buyers, the tradeoff is Golden Hills' location versus the greater variety of housing available in the Villas.
